One of the earliest memories I have is of my grandmother sitting at her old treadle sewing machine when she was having one of her ‘make do and mend’ days. If I squint my eyes up very tight and really concentrate, I can further remember it was likely to be a Tuesday . . . Grandma was very organised and her routine was very rarely disrupted. I wonder how she would view today’s fantastic range of sewing machines and overlockers for the home. With the touch of a button we can now make clothes to almost tailor standard – the overlocking of the seams making it so much more professional. The amazing range of tools that come with machines is a modern twist. From zipper and button attachments and embroidery stitching – programmable with options for twin needles and threads. A far cry from those busy days in front of the fire in the back parlour!
